This round, gold-finished pin celebrates the new animation classic “Cars 2” by featuring one of the major characters, Lightning McQueen, and in the background to his left, two of the minor new characters, Kabuki dancer Okuni and an unidentified friend.
Lightning himself is the large Pin on Pin element. The dark red and lavender sparkle/glitter elements are some of the tall buildings in the background. The fragile white stencil elements are the flowers in the hair of both of the Kabuki dancers, and the decorations seen on the left side of Okuni.
Printed across the bottom of the original card is the code “P923-3170-4-15112”. The same code can also be found stenciled on the back of the pin, placed vertically, paralleling the right side of the box containing the copyright information.
This same code was found in similar places on both the back of the card and the pin itself for the other pins in this series released on the same day as this particular pin was released.
Similar, but not identical, codes can be sometimes found on the backs of the cards, and sometimes on the backs of the pins themselves in some of the earlier releases in this series. But the placement of these codes, and the manner in which they were applied, changed across some of the releases.
To summarize, a brief history of the codes in this series, up through this release;
1) Earliest releases did not have codes on either the backs of their cards, or on the backs of the pins themselves.
2) When first introduced, the codes were only on the backs of the cards.
3) When the codes were first put onto the backs of the pins themselves, they were branded on.
4) Later the permanent branding was downgraded to removable stenciling.
5) Still later, the placement of the code on the back of the card was changed from being vertically up the left side to being horizontally placed across the bottom.
Size, in inches, approximately 1 15/16 x 1 15/16.
Part of the Beloved Tales series.
