Following the defeat of the Galactic Empire at the end of Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, a galaxy far, far away was in need of a new galactic authority.
To this end, the New Republic was formed. Democracy quickly returned to the galaxy, upholding the principles of the Republic prior to the rise of the Empire. Using a small peacekeeping force, the various planets under the New Republic’s jurisdiction were kept safe.
As seen in Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2, New Republic pilot Carson Teva (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) attempted to recruit former Rebel shock trooper Cara Dune (Gina Carano) into their ranks. Dune ultimately refused his offer, having left that part of her past behind.
Nevertheless, Teva awarded her with a symbol of his gratitude: a Republic medallion.
