As the "Spirit of '76," Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy led the celebration in 1976 for the Bicentennial of the United States of America. This Open Edition pin features Donald Duck from that parade playing a fife. Donald moves from side to side in this round pin. Disney Design Group Artist Tyler Dumas created the artwork for this pin.
Did you know?
America On Parade, a special American Bicentennial parade, actually started performances on June 14, 1975. The parade ran until September 6, 1976. Disney designers, led by entertainment head Bob Jani, came up with special floats and a series of costumes featuring oversized heads that told the story of America's history, culture and achievements. After the parade ended, these "big head" figures eventually made their way to Epcot at Walt Disney World® Resort. They were the only characters found at Epcot® for the first couple of years after opening in 1982.
