Did you know?
The original plans for Disneyland called for a European village setting. But a lack of funds and shortage of time in 1955 prevented Walt's vision for the land from becoming an immediate reality. Mrs. Lillian Disney was in attendance for the May reopening ceremony and helped dedicate a plaque bearing the words spoken by Walt Disney during the original 1955 opening of Fantasyland. During the ceremony, the castle drawbridge was raised and lowered for the first time since July 17, 1955. As part of the festivities, the children of the original children who had crossed the drawbridge in 1955 were invited to the park to initiate the new rides.
