"Welcome, foolish mortals, to the Haunted Mansion" was first heard on August 9, 1969. This Open Edition hinged and dangle pin remembers the Opening of the Haunted Mansion in New Orleans Square. This pin featured hinged doors that open to reveal the three hitchhiking ghosts. The dangle is a bat with "Disneyland" in the center. Disney Design Group Artist Chris Chapman created the artwork for this pin.
Did you know?
A haunted house-style attraction dated back to the initial designs for Disneyland Park, with a ramshackle mansion appearing on a concept sketch for Main Street, U.S.A.. Though that version never came to be, a stately Southern manor eventually took shape along the southwestern bank of the Rivers of America in 1963. The Haunted Mansion had originally been conceived as a walk-through exhibit, with two identical show experiences operating side-by-side to handle the anticipated crowds. This method was eventually discarded as impractical and the "Doom Buggy" Omnimover system was adopted.
